Solution focused coaching is about creating conversations that generate clarity, hope, and meaningful action

These digital cards help coaches bring structure, imagery, and shared language into online sessions – without overcomplicating the process. They support clients in describing preferred futures, noticing resources, and recognizing progress, one conversation at a time.

In online coaching, conversations can easily stay abstract.

Clients talk about change, but struggle to describe it in concrete, observable ways. Challenges feel heavy, progress goes unnoticed, and sessions risk revolving around explanations instead of movement.

Without visual anchors, it’s harder to externalize issues, imagine success, or track small but meaningful shifts.

Solution focused coaching is built on a clear stance:

  • The client is the expert on their life
  • Coaching is a partnership, not an expert intervention
  • Change happens through language and dialogue

When clients describe what they want, what already works, and how progress shows up, those descriptions shape new possibilities.

Visual coaching cards support this by:

  • Creating distance between the person and the issue (externalizing)
  • Helping clients build vivid descriptions of their preferred future
  • Making progress noticeable instead of measurable

This is especially powerful in digital spaces, where shared visuals create a sense of “working on something together.”

This card set follows the six phases of the solution focused coaching process – from contracting and partnering, through externalizing challenges, imagining preferred futures, to noticing resources and signs of progress.

One simple method:

Clients select images that resonate with the current phase of the conversation. The coach uses curiosity-driven questions to explore meaning, possibilities, and next steps.

The cards are flexible:

  • Use them sequentially or intuitively
  • Skip what doesn’t fit the moment
  • Revisit images to notice change over time

They don’t provide answers.

They create space for better questions and richer conversations.

I ordered these motiv cards in a set of 2, on the following themes “World of Emotions” and “Growing Together”. Both sets are ideally adapted for various applications. Especially the combination of a picture and supportive questions make these deep picture cards something special. They intuitively support the users to give free rein to their thoughts. I got myself a set of Deep Pictures for the 30th edition of BEST’s Trainer Camp, on which a new generation of soft-skill trainers was raised. Over 12 days, we were able to use the cards in all sorts of situations, be it in training sessions for reflecting upon experiences, for retrospectives at the end of each day or for stimulating thoughts during individual coaching. The highlight for our participants was, of course, that at the end of the event everyone could take home a card with the personal greetings of the remaining participants.

The Team Cards “Growing Together” and the Emotion Cards are particularly useful for my work with teens. This is because their combination of images on one side and questions on the other offer a direct entry into deeper conversation. The images and questions allow the youngsters to compare their perception of themselves with how others perceive them – which triggers thoughts, discussion and self-reflection. The cards also work really well for uniting a group.
